Chicken Momos

Description: Momos are traditional Tibetan dumplings that have become a popular snack in Pakistan. These chicken momos are a delicious and easy-to-make version of the classic recipe, filled with flavorful chicken and served with a tangy dipping sauce.

Ingredients:
For the dough:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup ghee or oil
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
For the filling:
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the dipping sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (optional)
Method:
  1. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the ghee or oil and mix until the dough comes together. Gradually add the lukewarm water and knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a separate mixing bowl, combine the chopped chicken, onion, garlic, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Assemble the momos: Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a small egg. Roll out each ball into a thin circle. Place a tablespoon or two of the chicken filling in the center of the dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together to seal the momo.
  4. Steam the momos: In a large steamer basket, place the momos in a single layer, leaving some space between each momo. Steam the momos over boiling water for 15-20 minutes or until they are cooked through and fluffy.
  5. Serve with dipping sauce: Serve the steamed momos with the dipping sauce made by mixing together the mayonnaise, ketchup, soy sauce, and chopped cilantro (if using).
