Dahi Chicken

Description

Dahi Chicken is a popular Pakistani dish made by marinating chicken in yogurt and spices and then cooking it in a rich and creamy sauce. This recipe is a perfect blend of flavors, with the tanginess of yogurt, the spiciness of chilies, and the aroma of cumin and coriander.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 medium-sized onion paste
  • 2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish

Method

  1. Marination: In a large bowl, mix together yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Add the chicken pieces and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cooking: Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion paste and cook until the color changes to white. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Cook the chicken until browned on all sides and cooked through.
  3. Sauce: In the same pan, add the marinade, water and lemon juice. Cover the pan and cook until the chicken tenders. Take off the lid, add cream, and cook for 5-7 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
  4. Serve: Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with rice or naan.
